If you find yourself in THIS situation then YOU are a shopaholic! But don’t worry, if I can be cured so can you. I was once that girl but when you’re ‘balling on a budget’ you learn some things! Here are five shopping tips that I hope will help you in your fight against shopaholism.
SHOP WITH A LIST
It’s important to shop with a list because well if you’re anything like me you’re likely to buy more than what you went to the store to get. I know the second I walk into a store I am mesmerized! It’s overwhelming when you walk in to Saks for a belt and there’s ten shirts, a pair of shoes and 5 jeans that would be incredible additions to your closet. If you make a list and stick to the list then you’re in good shape from separating your genuine needs from your frivolous wants!
SET A BUDGET
Ohhhh the ‘b’ word.. one of our least favorites! This is important for obvious reasons; you can’t spend what you don’t have. So do the dreaded deed and check your bank account balance before you leave.. Can you spend $50 or $500
PAY WITH CASH
If you lack the self control in Bloomingdales that I do then you know the feeling of a new pair of shoes and how exciting and easy it is to buy them handing over a debit card. Because why? Because a debit card is like monopoly money! You’re not thinking of the hours and hours you spent at work making that money because with a piece of plastic those feelings don’t come! Handing over cash on the other hand is a lot more painful. Did you know we are likely to spend 20-50% more on something if we use a debit card than cash. 50% is HUGE so do yourself the favor before you shop and take out cash. A trick that will help you budget too!
SHOP WITH SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS YOUR BUDGET
Don’t be fooled! If you’re out shopping with somebody who doesn’t know you very well or doesn’t know your budget then there going to tell you you look amazing in everything you try on! And unfortunately, that’s usually not the case. Shopping takes a lot of effort and EVERYTHING has it’s own fit.. As well as it’s own price. Experts say to shop alone so theres no outside influence on what to buy. But I say you need somebody you trust to tell you if you look good?! And you need somebody honest to help you make the decision if an item is over budget or not! My suggestion: Shop with a family member 🙂 They’ll deliver the truth whether you want to hear it or not.
ASK YOURSELF: WHERE AND WITH WHAT WILL I WEAR THIS?
It is so easy to spend your hard earned cash on things you really don’t need. I don’t know about you but when shopping, I act quite impulsively. Whatever it is you have your eye on might not have a place in your closet nor wardrobe. So think about an item before you get it and ask yourself
1)Where will I wear this?
2)What does this go with that I have?
